Made From Unique Material and They Sailed

“When you innovate, you’ve got to be prepared for everyone telling you you’re nuts” – Larry Ellison (entrepreneur)

Fresh ideas and spirit to try some new thing is the fuel for them to create a floating device that capable to carried weight and move above water. With this unique and unthinkable by other peoples, they can proofed that Archimedes Law can be applied to other ship with different material, others than stainless steel.

Bittersweet Journey of a Chocolate Ship

George Larnicol, a 55 year old chef from France successfully make and sail with a 3.5 meter long boat made from chocolate. This is the second attempt from George to make a chocolate ship, after the previous is end up in pieces after a sailing test.

Undeterred by his failure, George’s try to make a ship again named Bateau Chocolat II. This 1.2 ton weighted ship is constructed by a frame made from sugar, as for the rest of them is made by pure chocolate. George and his team working 8 hours a day and spend a total of 400 hours to finished Bateau Chocolat II.

A Cross Atlantic Expedition of Plastic Ship
A sailboat which made from a 12500 recycled plastic bottle berth in Sydney Harbor, after four months struggling try to cross Pacific Ocean. The Plastiki, that’s what they named the ship, carries a noble mission to work up awareness about the danger of plastic waste.

A journey of 8000 mile in the sea begin from San Fransisco on 20th of March and make a stop on several harbor spot in various country on the South Pacific Island, including Kiribati and Samoa.

De Rothschild (31), the leader of this expedition tell that the idea to this sailing is come up after he see a report from The United Nations on 2006 saying that a pollution, plastic waste in particular, threaten the sea to a more serious level.

De Rothschild had an idea, to prove that the most effective way to re-use a waste is to use it to make a ship. The Plastiki was fully made from recycled material and use solar panel and windmill energy.

This ship is almost entirely made from bottles arranged with a organic adhesive come from sugar cane and cashew nuts. But there were also several parts made from other material, a mast for example, made from a recycled aluminium pipe.

Do you remember your childhood toys shaped as a mini ship and made from folded newspaper that was allegedly left to float over a rain puddles? Let’s called it as a dream for us to make a ship. And a college student from China succeed to make his child dream come true.

In favor to increase awareness about benefits from recycling paper, Wang Luyao, a college student in Wuhan, China, built a ready to use rowing boat from sheets of recycled paper. This Paper Boat is used by students there to get a cross the river of Hanjiang.

From data reported by the media, boat weighs 45 kg and measuring 1.9 meters x 1.2 meters is managed through a distance of 800 m in 7 minutes. If Luyao’s paper boat was duplicated and used efficiently it is no exaggeration to be labeled as part of environmentally friendly transportation solutions.
